Dysport is a neurotoxin injection used for the treatment of wrinkles, crow’s feet, frown lines, and other cosmetic signs of aging on the face. The treatment is extremely safe as only a very small amount is used to achieve the desired result.

Your first appointment
You can expect to spend around 30-45 minutes in the office so that we can perform a thorough consultation as well as monitor you after the procedure for any side effects.
During your consultation, we may recommend that you stop taking certain medications, such as aspirin, for a few days prior to your appointment to reduce the risk of bleeding and bruising. Do not stop taking any medications without your doctor’s approval or without consulting your doctor first.
During your appointment
Treatments can take as little as 15 minutes to complete. You do not need to be administered any type of sedative or anesthetic for the procedure as the needle that is used is extremely small.
At most, you will feel a small pinch at your injection sites, but it should not cause anything more than slight discomfort. Most treatments will consist of 5-15 injections depending on how severe your wrinkles are. You will be able to resume normal activities immediately.
After the appointment
You can see initial results within 3-5 days, however, the full effect of the treatment may not be evident for up to 2 weeks.
For most patients, the effect of the injections will last 4-6 months. Some patients may start to notice that the effect is beginning to wear off around the 3-4 month mark, whereas others will go the full six months without their treatment beginning to fade.
Your first injection will typically take the longest to show results as your muscles must be trained. The first injection is also the one that will often wear off the fastest, around the 3-4 month point, for similar reasons.
Dysport Botox works best preventatively—start in your early thirties before wrinkles deepen. Results last 4-6 months, requiring 2-3 treatments yearly to maintain your look.
Share your complete medical background with your doctor—including medications, allergies, and prior cosmetic treatments. Communicate your aesthetic goals clearly. Dysport prevents aging and smooths fine lines but may not eliminate deep wrinkles.
Who is Dysport Botox for?
Anyone 25+ concerned about their appearance or genetics. It's especially effective for those with a family history of wrinkles who want preventative treatment. Both preventative and corrective treatments are available for all genders.
Who should avoid Dysport Botox?
Patients taking daily blood thinners, those with significant health conditions, allergies to similar toxins, very thick/thin/fragile skin, or muscle weakness near injection sites may not be good candidates. Always disclose your complete medical history during consultation.
What are the side effects?
Most patients experience no side effects and resume normal activities immediately. Some may notice slight bruising, swelling, or mild headaches lasting a few hours to days. Treatments near the eyes may cause temporary dryness or tearing. The procedure is extensively researched and considered extremely safe.
Is Dysport covered by insurance?
Coverage depends on your provider. Some cover cosmetic treatments, others only therapeutic use (migraines, TMJ). Medicare and Medicaid typically don't cover cosmetic procedures. Contact your insurance provider to understand your out-of-pocket costs.
What happens if I stop getting Dysport?
Wrinkles gradually return but form much slower than if you'd never had treatment. You can restart treatments anytime (if medically eligible). With consistent use over time, you'll need fewer injections as muscles become trained. You'll still look younger than you would have without treatment.
Will I have a "frozen" expression?
No. Modern Botox techniques are subtle and natural-looking, designed to help you age gracefully while maintaining full expression. Non-surgical procedures like Botox now account for 9 out of 10 cosmetic procedures—it's common and no longer taboo.
Does Dysport weaken facial muscles?
Yes, and that's beneficial! Wrinkles form from overactive facial muscles. Botox relaxes these muscles, preventing them from contracting as strongly, which reduces wrinkle formation over time.
Is there a difference between Botox and Cosmetic Botox?
There's no chemical difference. Botox is FDA-approved for therapeutic use (like migraines), while Cosmetic Botox treats wrinkles and fine lines. Therapeutic treatments typically use higher doses. The distinction mainly affects insurance coverage.
